Men (and some women), many of you are preparing for the hunt, deer hunting gun season starts next weekend in Wisconsin. It’s a time for peace out in nature. It’s a time of laughter with your buddies. It’s a time of feeling like a real man. It’s a time of memories hunting with dad or grandpa.
There is something powerful about being out in nature all alone with our own thoughts. Something great about hanging with the guys after a long day in the stand and laughing and grunting and belching with our friends. Something manly about gutting out the fresh kill in the field and then pealing off all the layers of blaze orange at the end of the day.
Can you imagine the comradery the disciples of Jesus felt as they worked together on their mission to make fishers of men? Think about the long talks around the fire Jesus and His disciples had as they contemplated their mission. They were on a hunt but it wasn’t a hunt for deer but rather a hunt for the souls of lost men and women.
The Savior is still on a hunt for your soul and mine. He has come “to seek and to save that which is lost.” (Luke 19:10) Take Him with you to the tree stand this year. Take Him with you for a time of prayer. Take His Word with you for a time of reflection. Take His music with you for a time of worship. May your hunt be safe and may it be a time of communion with your Savior, Jesus Christ. [For most post like this go to Rock Solid Men.]
