It's kind of ironic that Matthew Perry, the actor who just died, said recently that he wished he had a wife and kids. He said his closest friend was his assistant. So, one of the cast members from the TV show “Friends” died with few friends. He lived his entire life like he was still on the TV show, not getting married, not having kids and he died alone. He wanted to get married but said that most women were just after his money. 1
The Bible says that “it is not good for man to be alone” so God made Eve. (Genesis 2:18)
Sadly, many men today don't dream about getting married anymore. They are often sexually active without marriage so they don’t need a wife for that. Men also don’t dream of getting married because they want to spend their money on themselves. Men don’t desire to get married because they don't want a woman telling them what to do.
Some men just don't want the responsibility of marriage.
But do you know that married men are healthier than single men? One Fortune article recently said that “Married men and married women live, on average, two years longer than their unmarried counterparts.” 2
America also needs responsible men and responsible men tend to be men who are married. They take care of their wife, they take care of their children, they keep a good job to pay the bills and they generally stay out of trouble because they have too much on their shoulders to be messing around.
Men are marrying less and later but it's not good for them and it's not good for society. Men, pour your life into your wife and kids and enjoy it because you're living the life God designs for you. If you're not married yet, start praying that God will show you the women for you.
Certainly, not all men will get married or need to get married. Saint Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9 "Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion." Some of us just burn with passion too much to stay unmarried.
Saint Paul thought it was good to not get married so that a person could spend more of their time serving the Lord and spreading the gospel.
The bottom line is that men are living responsible, godly lives.
